Update 10/1/08
Jazz is still awaiting for her forever home. She has recently been joined by her foster brother, Sailor
(NERR #1413) in her Western, MA. home.
Her orthopedic issues limit her mobility but have not affected her happy heart and cheerful outlook!!
She is a very sweet, loving girl. She adores tossing her vast collection of stuffed toys around, and
fetching them. Lying in the sun is also fun. Going on small walks. Riding in the truck. And especially sleeping
under the computer desk when her foster Mom works there.
She is another deserving dog who is very endearing. She has captured the hearts of other NERR volunteers
with her gentle nature, courage, large doe-like eyes and her smiley face.
If you are looking for a sedate and lovely charmer, this girl is for you!!
Update 2/10/08
It's me, Jazz!! Since this is the "month of Love," I am sending my special Valentine's
wishes to all NERR&R volunteers, the people I've met at the Keene, Petco RDs, and all the
dogs!!
I'll be waiting to say Hi to you, along with my buddy Sailor, at the next Keene NH RD,
on Feb.16th.
I have so much love to offer. Hoping you'll be MY VALENTINE!!
XOXO
Jazz.
Update 1/02/08
Hi! It’s me. Jazz. I’m hoping this New Year will bring me a family
for my very own. I live a wonderful life with my foster mom and foster
brother dog friend, but I’d love a family to call my own. I am not partial
to cats or other little furry creatures, and because I am a special-needs
girl with orthopedic limitations I need my meds daily to stay mobile. I think
I do really well under the circumstances and my foster mom says I am a brave
and lovely girl!!
I have my paws crossed that I’ll find my forever home in 2008! I am patiently
waiting for YOU, my family, in my Western MA foster home.
Please see how nicely I am sitting for YOU in my most recent picture on the home page of the website!!
Update 8/25/07
Jazz is currently enjoying living in her Western MA foster home. She is about 5 years old and was picked up as a stray.
As a special needs girl, she is patiently awaiting her forever home waiting for a special someone, or family, that is
completely understanding of her limitations and specific needs. Jazz has orthopedic issues with her elbows and her condition
will always curtail her activity levels. Her compromised physical condition is further hampered by her unknown hind-end weakness.
Jazz is on 150 mg. of Rimadyl daily. Due diligence regarding her medicines and comfort levels are a must!!
Despite her conditions, Jazz is a cheerful girl with an endearing nature. She is devoted to her foster Mom and to the toys that
she proudly carries, now and again, from room to room. Her best attribute is her adorable face with her huge and soft, liquid
chocolate brown eyes. Her coat is shiny and she has nice markings. Her average-sized body is kept very lean, at about 70 lbs., to
lessen the impact upon her unsteady limbs. But despite her physical limitations she scuttles about happily.
Jazz’s favourite activity is to lie fully outstretched on her side, sleeping in the shade, in the outdoor pen, with her LabX foster
brother. While she is content to be a very-low activity girl, Jazz exhibits some prey drive and fixates on small furry creatures she
sees in the yard and in pet stores. Thus, the ideal home for Jazz has no cats or small furry pets. She would enjoy the company of
another mild-mannered dog, or be happy as the only dog in the household.
While Jazz is not a good dog with young children, who may accidentally fall on her or pull on her legs, she enjoys attention and
being groomed and petted. She would likely relish attention from a young teen. Jazz also enjoys slow short walks on her leash where
she sets the pace. She knows her house manners, and does not climb up on couches or beds. Jazz doesn’t counter-surf as she can’t stand
upright well on her hind legs. She also doesn’t jump up on people. Jazz must live with mature dogs - no puppies or juveniles whose
rough-housing might cause her pain and limb stress.
Her ultimate happiness would be to have her very own person or family to love her. Are you that special person or special family with
room in your heart and house for sweet deserving Jazz??
Say ‘Hello’ to NERR’s Jazz!
Jazz is a female (we guess about 5 years old) who showed up as stray at a shelter in Springfield, MA.
We don’t really know much more about her other than these two things: her joints have taken a beating
over the years, and she has the sweetest personality you will ever come across in a rottie.
Jazz’s front elbows are in such poor condition that they don’t even bend anymore. Her vet’s opinion is
that her condition was probably congenital and he’s not sure if corrective surgery would have ever been
an option for her…it is definitely not an option now. To keep her agile and comfortable she is following
a routine of gentle exercise, rimadyl and joint supplement medications. She does not appear to be in any
pain and actually moves around quite well. She can handle stairs but we wouldn’t recommend a steady diet
of them for her – a one story house as her forever home would be the easiest for her so she can stay with
her family through the course of the day without having to travel from floor to floor. She has chased a
squirrel or two during her stay with her foster family and even though she looks like Frankenstein when
she does it, she seems to have a great time in the process!
Elbows aside, Jazz is a very easy dog to live with. She has no bad habits that her foster family can see,
he has very good recall when she is outside with the family, and she gets along well with the other dogs she
lives with. Her foster home does have three cats and Jazz does display some prey drive when exposed to them,
but due to her physical state she mostly only barks at them. Jazz does have a little stubborn streak, but
responds quickly to correction. She loves to ride in the car but does occasionally bark at passing cars,
and is very much a lady when it comes to ear cleaning and toenail trimming.
Jazz doesn’t require much as far as entertainment – she just wants to spend her time with her people. And
once you see her pretty face looking up at you our guess is that you will always want her by your side too.
She’s a sweetie!
Jazz did have to have surgery to remove a benign tumor from her right rear foot and will need about a month
to recuperate from that, but after that time she will be ready to go to her forever home. If you would like
to meet this lovely lady please come for a visit in central New Hampshire. Sweet Jazz probably had a rough
time for the first half of her life. We think she deserves a better second half, don’t you?
