Find out how you can Sponsor A Rottweiler! |
Hi. I’m Cleo. I was given a second chance at life when NERR&R brought me into their program in October of 2009. Since then I’ve been winning the hearts of people I meet at NERR&R fundraising events, especially at our monthly Rottweiler Days in Keene, NH. If I do I say so myself, I am the perfect ambassadog for the breed.
I am your typical Rottie girl who loves being around her person. I'm a real Velcro dog and am pretty laid back. I am always gentle around everyone, but especially around children. I love giving kisses and leaning.
I love to snoop too. I poke my head in to check on my people in the kitchen or in the bathroom – even in the shower. When a door is closed, I butt it with my head to open it. I love to grab towels and shake them just for fun. If anyone brings bags or boxes into the house, it is my job to sort through each one and inspect them because I am a natural born shopper.
I adore my crate, which I fill with my prize finds and favorite toys. Although generally well mannered, I can be a sneaky counter-surfer at times, so my foster mom keeps the tempting items back and out of my reach.
For those of you not familiar with my story, I was diagnosed with an Oral Malignant Canine Melanoma in November 2010. I went to the New England Veterinary Oncology Group (NEVOG) in Waltham, MA for further diagnosis. Fortunately, the cancer was discovered at Stage 1. Thanks to NERR&R and donations from many of you, I was able to undergo the recommended treatments at NEVOG, which continue to save my life! My cancer is in remission and my prognosis is currently very good.
My initial treatments consisted of a CT scan, 4 treatments of Radiation, in addition to 4 treatments of the Melanoma Cancer Vaccine, chest radiographs, and additional booster vaccines. With successful completion of the initial treatments, my prognosis remains good. However, I will continue to require a Melanoma Cancer Vaccine booster every 6 months and a re-check every 90 days for the rest of my life.
It is imperative I follow this veterinary protocol for the rest of my life, so if you are considering adopting me, keep in mind that you must commit to assuming responsibility to continue these treatments with me.
I currently reside in Southern NH where I have lots of adventures with my foster mom. She takes me for short romps in our woods, an occasional swim in the lake, and country rides in the car. She loves to buy me squeaky toys. Recently she even took me to a “dog friendly” drive-in movie theatre where I did lots of snooping, met other dogs, ate a bit of popcorn, and finally stretched out across the back seat to snore through the main feature.
Although I am happy and I get excited about my walks and rides with my foster mom, I do not require lots of exercise. In fact, steep stairways and downhill climbs can be difficult for me because I have hip dysplasia and my joints are getting a bit arthritic.
When I am not snooping, snoring, or snacking, my main joy in life is being around people whom I can focus on and love — and to follow them almost everywhere. Could you be my special people?
