North East Rottweiler Rescue & Referral, Inc. Volunteer Information

Welcome to North East Rottweiler Rescue!

I am the Volunteer Coordinator, Nina Harvey. If at any time you have questions about our program or what you can do to help, I am your contact person. I will do my best to answer your question or attend to your concerns, and if I am unable to help you directly I will direct you to the person who can. You can reach me via e-mail at rottieboys@verizon.net.

We have a variety of jobs and whatever you can do to help, we'd love to have you! While transportation and foster care are our most immediate needs, we strongly encourage you to volunteer for whatever type of job suits you. We have coordinators for each area of our organization so if you'd like to help with something in particular, let the right person know! All contacts are listed below.

Michele Scarpa is the acting Foster Coordinator. She matches all of the program dogs to the appropriate foster home. She also makes sure that each dog has monthly HW and flea control and that foster homes fill out monthly progress reports. Michele is in CT and can be reached at foster@rottrescue.org.

Christina Dupuis is our Adoption Coordinator. Processing adoption applications is one of the most important jobs we do, it is time consuming and takes dedication and a strong personality. If you want to help Christina out, please let her know. Christina is in ME and can be reached at adoption@rottrescue.org.

Patti Wicks is the Adoptions Follow-up Coordinator for adopted dogs. If you have questions or concerns regarding adopted dogs, Patti can be reached at followup@rottrescue.org.

Mary Ann is our Treasurer and handles all of our money. If you want to give her some to increase our checkbook balance, let her know :) She also handles reimbursements, and approved expenses are reimbursed in a timely fashion as funds allow. Mary Ann can be contacted at ma.grim@comcast.net if you have any questions about NERR&R finances or reimbursement.

You may also contact your Regional Volunteer Coordinator for specific questions involving activities in your neck of the woods. They are as follows:

If your area is not listed, contact Nina Harvey - rottieboys@verizon.net for information.

Temperament Evaluations: There are many of us who do regular temperament evaluations. This is a very important part of what we do and it takes a great deal of training. We cover a large area and it seems like there are never enough of us to do the job. We need more evaluators. If you would like to be apprenticed and trained to do evaluations, please contact the nearest member of the evaluations team. Be warned, it takes a special person to do evals. You are out there in the trenches and it can be very heartbreaking in those shelters as we just can't save them all. T his is also a very time consuming and unpredictable job that requires flexibility and often a lot of travel time. You may be asked to travel on short notice and a dog's life may depend on you being able to get there.

If you are interested in evaluating dogs for the program, you will be apprenticed to one of the following evaluators.

Now for the information that you have been waiting for!!

How do I get involved? How will I know when you need me? How do I know what is going on?

The primary mode of communication happens via the NERR Distributed list. You are automatically subscribed to this list when your volunteer waiver (which is renewed yearly) is received. This list generates about 3 e-mails a week with information on what's going on, what needs to be done, etc. To respond to a certain task, you should email the contact person listed WITHIN the body of the email. If you hit reply, your response will go to the moderator of the list and may not receive a timely response.

All North East Rottweiler Rescue lists are business lists (with the exception of NERRBanter) and should be used for SOLE PURPOSE of NERR business ONLY. Cross posts for available dogs, need for foster homes for other groups/individuals, etc. are not permitted on NERR lists. Additionally, members are expected to be professional and courteous at all times when posting to these lists.

Please use the information on this HELP yahoo groups help page to sign up and use our lists.

Volunteers have access to all of our forms: Home checks, surrenders, temperament evaluations, expense forms and POLICIES. We suggest you review all of this material as it is NERR&R and is what you are expected to present to the public. Volunteer Page
